Heritage of Mangalagiri

On the occasion of 74th Independence day, We the students of  NITIE Mumbai and Marketing Interest Group from the ideology of #Mandi sir  as  part of  #Vocal_for_Local Campaign, promoting Mangalagiri Sarees.

Mangalagiri sarees are produced by performing handicraft weaving in Mangalagiri, a town in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. These sarees use Nizam design, which makes it more attractive. These have been a part of town for more than five decades.

Among the dozens of different handwoven silks made in India, there is none more elegant than mangalagiri. This most famous silk and cotton saree from south India is known for its lustrous fabric and golden color patterns.

One of the most traditional weaves in the state, a Mangalagiri saree is also one of the richest weaves and can be found in cotton as well as silk. The fineness of the weave is one of the many reasons why it is so sought after. Other factors that contribute to its popularity are the patterns and designs that are woven into the saree, that are reminiscent of the history of the state, especially the rule of the Nawabs.

Mangalagiri is not only famous for sarees, but also making its way to steal the hearts of the new generation with its super cool cotton kurtas, dupattas, and stoles with the mangalagiri weave which can be teamed up with western wear for a funky Indo-western look.
